It is a family legend that whilst on holiday in The Netherlands, Alexander (Lex) Cumming (Cumming_Snr-2) rescued Queen Sophie of Württemberg. The wife of King Willem III of The Netherlands (1817-90) when the lead horse of her carriage bolted. It is reported that Alexander (Lex) was offered the job of Royal coachman by His Majesty King Willem III after sacking the previous holder of the title. Alexander (my second great uncle) accepted the post. He moved to The Hague and later married Sophia Charlotta Weyermans (28 Jan 1863) and raised a family in The Hague
